Chinese Embassy turns over 1,000 learning tablets to Manila LGU

Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian turned over 1,000 learning tablets to Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso for use by students in the capital city engaged in distance learning on Wednesday, May 12.

In an online handover ceremony, Domagoso received the tablets from Huang who said that the donation aims to aid in the implementation of the blended distance learning modality in Manila amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Huang said the donated tablets form part of the Distance Education Equipment Supporting Program initiated by Chinese Embassy to help the students in the Philippines to overcome difficulties and to get better access to distance learning resources.

“The Chinese Embassy will continue to support the education endeavor of the Philippines to the best of our ability through the Chinese Government Scholarship and Chinese Ambassador Scholarship projects, among others,” Huang added.

He said China and the Philippines have been helping and supporting each other and have built a closer partnership through the anti-pandemic cooperation.

Last year, the Chinese Embassy also donated 40,000 pieces of “Friendship Bag” to Filipinos to help them get through the difficulties.

"As a close and friendly neighbor, China will continue to do its utmost to support the Philippines until it secures the final victory against the virus," Huang said.

Domagoso expressed appreciation for the donation, and said the tablets will be distributed to students and families in need.

“I believe that with the help of China, the Philippines will surely be able to overcome the pandemic and achieve economic recovery and social development at an early date,” he said.
