Government anti-narcotics operatives have arrested two people tagged as among those behind the smuggling of more than P15 million worth of ecstasy tablets in an operation conducted in Quezon City on Tuesday.
Derrick Carreon, spokesperson of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), said the seized 9,234 pieces of ecstasy tablets were hidden in three parcels that were shipped from abroad and was consigned to a certain Glorie Joy Lamatao Buzeta, of West Kamias, Quezon City.
"They were declared as “baby clothes, hand bag and shoes. The parcels contain more than 9,000 pieces of suspected ecstacy tablets," said Carreon.
He said that after detecting that ecstasy tablets were inside, PDEA took the lead in delivering the parcels to the Central Post Office in Quezon City.
At around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, suspects Rowena Evangelio, who was the representative of the consignee, and Michael de Guzman, surfaced to claim the parcels and were arrested.
