He will take from what is mine and declare it to you

REFLECTIONS TODAY In today’s Gospel, Jesus refers to the Spirit of truth as the guide of his disciples. This same Spirit will take from what is his and declare it to the disciples. The Gospel also tells us that everything the Father has also belongs to Jesus. What is this thing that the Advocate will declare to the disciples? This is the same thing that Jesus has received from the Father, which he has shared with the Holy Spirit, and which the Holy Spirit will now communicate to the followers of Jesus. The Father, Jesus, and the Advocate share this same thing: LOVE. The Holy Spirit guides us that we may become more loving every day. How open are we to God’s communication of love? How loving have we already become? How do we make the love of God operational in our daily life?

GOSPEL • JOHN 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
