Léon Gallery brings abstract art to Art Fair Philippines 2021

If there is a kind of art that is not pretentious, it's abstract painting—well, to a certain extent. There is no accurate depiction. Just wild brushstrokes, unusual shapes, and crazy colors all contributing to making one grotesque piece of art. It can be joyful and chaotic but also streamlined and serene.

That is what Léon Gallery is showcasing at the ongoing Art Fair Philippines 2021: the beauty of abstract art. Dubbed as "Elemental," the exhibit features masterpieces from virtuosic geometric abstractionists. It includes the works of world-renowned painters such as Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely (1906–1997) and Venezuelan kinetic artist Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923–2019).

In the local art scene, works by Fernando Zobel, Jose Joya, Lee Aguinaldo, and Florencio Concepcion are also exhibited. These artists undoubtedly demonstrated that Filipino artists are more than capable of adapting the tenets of geometric abstraction into the Philippine context.

Other artists whose resplendent art works will be exhibited include Nena Saguil, Lao Lianben, Bernando Pacquing, Norberto Carating, Jesús Rafael Soto, Romulo Olazo, and Josef Albers.

A virtual exhibition will be organized on the Art Fair Philippines website. While a complementary exhibit runs at Léon Gallery International located at G/F Corinthian Plaza, 121 Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.
