GOSSIP GIRL: Jane de Leon reveals hardships when she was starting out in show business

Jane de Leon (Metro Style)

“My dad died of cancer and our funds were depleted. We were so hard-up that when my dad was still alive and a neighbor’s chicken entered our house, my dad was forced to kill the chicken, so we could have food on our table. When he died, and I started auditioning in ABS-CBN, whenever we would have casting callbacks we would just sleep outside ABS-CBN since we did not have money to travel back and forth. There was even a time my mom and I were so hungry, and we only had one last piece of cracker, and we had to half that cracker to get by.”

Jane was teary-eyed while she slowly revealed to Gossip Girl her painful past.

That was when the future Darna was 15 years old. Now the young lass is 22 years old and at the peak of her prime and her career as she is now one of the main cast on "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano" shown on Tv5, A2z, WeTV, I WantTFC, TFC, and iflix. Before she was announced as Darna two years ago, Jane would hop from one audition to another. “I tried auditioning in Dabarkads. It was Maine Mendoza who got in and even in We United, an international teen singing group, and it was Bailey May that got the break. I guess everybody has their time, and I was very happy for them. It was surprising but even after five years of auditioning, God kept on giving me the will to fight. Somehow God gave me a discernment to continue because He had something special planned for me. I was the last to audition in Darna at 7 p.m. because honestly, I really did not think I will make it as Darna. I was just hoping to get a minor character in the movie.”

Jane gives hope to anyone pursuing their dreams in any field. “Una, Magtiwala kayo sa kakayahan meron kayo. Pangalawa, kailangan mong paghirapan kasi kahit saan, papasok ka talaga sa butas ng karayom. At pangatlo, kung madapa ka, huwag mo isipin na hindi ka makakabangon kasi may mga taong susuportahan ka doon sa pangarap mo.” (One, trust in your talents or skills. Two, if you want to succeed you need to work for it because in any field it is difficult. Imagine entering an eye of a needle, that’s how hard it is to get to where you want to go. And last, although things may seem difficult, DO NOT GIVE UP. If you fall down, there will always be people who will help you get back up and help you to the finish line.)
