Eleazar warning on cleanliness in assumption speech forces some commanders to clean police stations

The stern warning given by Philippine National Police (PNP) Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar to police commanders to observe cleanliness during his assumption speech last week have forced some of them to start repainting and cleaning their precincts, stations and offices.

"I have heard from other officers that some of our personnel have started cleaning and painting their offices and stations... I will really conduct surprise inspections just what I did when I was in the NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office)," said Eleazar.

Eleazar is known to be strict in imposing discipline among policemen, which resulted in a general positive response among the public when his appointment as the Chief PNP was announced last week. In his speech, he warned police police commanders to observe cleanliness as part of his Intensified Cleanliness Policy.

But Eleazar said that he would still give police commanders enough time to clean their offices and stations before he would conduct surprise inspections.

He, however, said that he had already tasked provincial police, regional police commanders and other unit commanders to conduct inspection on their own as this would be part of his focus in the next six months.

Eleazar added that he also instructed the PNP Internal Affairs Service to include cleanliness in the office in the conduct of its daily regular inspection of police offices and stations across the country.

"Our IAS, through Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo, was already given authority to recommend as to who would be relieved at the level of Police Community Precinct," said Eleazar.

He said that when he was still at the NCRPO, he implemented a two-strike policy before he would order the relief of the chief of police.

On the other hand, Eleazar said that he had already ordered the director of the Comptrollership and the Logistics to download fund and other materials that would be used for the cleanliness program in all police stations across the country.
