Bales of used clothing or "ukay-ukay" worth P7 million were prevented from being distributed to local markets after Bureau of Customs (BOC) agents from the Port of Iloilo discovered the contraband at a warehouse in Bacolod City.

A statement from the BOC Monday, May 10, bared that the ukay-ukay were confiscated last May 3 from a warehouse facility in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.
A composite team from the Port of Iloilo, Philippine National Police (PNP), and barangay officials inspected the storage facility through a signed letter of authority from BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.
Aside from the bales of used clothes, shoes, bags, bed sheets, and curtains were also found stashed in the facility.
According to District Collector Ciriaco Ugay, further investigation will be conducted for the possible filing of charges against the owner of the seized items, specifically for violation of Republic Act (RA) 4653. The particular law “prohibits the commercial importation of used clothing and rags to safeguard the health of the people and maintain the dignity of the nation".
Ugay further said that the Port of Iloilo "is committed in pursuing the mandate of the bureau in protecting the country’s borders against the entry of prohibited goods".
