30 individuals get skills training, jobs in Pasig City amid pandemic

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, 30 individuals in a barangay in Pasig City were provided free skills training and employment opportunities.

This was made possible by the collaboration between Barangay San Antonio, Pasig, and CFC-ANCOP, paving the way to a 10-day free skills training of masonry, scaffolding, and carpentry.

Raymond Lising, barangay chairman, said a total of 30 residents of their barangay are currently participating in the training program. The program started on May 3.

He said that providing job opportunities is also a form of pandemic response.

“Our main goal is to provide employment opportunities and skills development to our constituents. This was spearheaded by our committee on livelihood, headed by Councilor Norma Medalla,” he said in a statement.

He said the 30 residents who underwent training will be hired once they pass the examination and evaluation after the training program.

“There will be an exam and evaluation based on their learning from the training program. Once they passed it, they will be immediately hired by the company,” said Lising.

Lising said the 30 trainees were being given P400 allowance per day, adding that they were also provided free medical examinations.

The barangay chairman said the training was conducted in the vicinity of the San Antonio Barangay Hall, in an open space in order for them to have sufficient ventilation.

Per Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), unemployment worsened with 4.2 million Filipinos reported jobless in February this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
