2 students drown, 1 rescued in Cagayan beach

BUGUEY, Cagayan – Two teenage students died while their companion was rescued from drowning in a beach in Barangay Paddaya Weste here Sunday.

Police identified the fatalities as Marnie Tierro, 16, and Jhonford Sagud, 13; and the rescued victim as Ronalyn Iris, 15, also a student.

A report from the Cagayan Police Provincial Office showed that the incident happened at 9 a.m. but it was reported to the police at 1 p.m. or four hours after.

Initial investigation showed that the victims were carried away by strong water current while swimming at the beach.

A bystander who witnessed the incident immediately responded but he only rescued Ronalyn.

The bodies of of Tierro and Sagud were recovered at 12:15 p.m.
