Manila LGU conducts 'Resbakunahan' for Filipino workers on Labor Day

The Manila city government conducted simultaneous COVID-19 vaccination of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and local workers on Labor Day.

"Ang symbolic vaccination po na ito ay hudyat ng pagsisimula ng pagbabakuna kontra COVID-19 para sa mga kababayan nating kabilang sa essential workforce sector (This symbolic vaccination signals the start of vaccination against COVID-19 for our essential workers)," Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said on Saturday (May 1).

Dubbed as "Resbakunahan sa Araw ng Paggawa," the event was held in Palacio de Maynila on Saturday (May 1).

"Pagpupugay po sa lahat ng manggagawang Pilipino! Sa abot po ng ating makakaya ay patuloy pong susuporta ang Manila LGU sa inyo sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng libre at dekalidad na serbisyong medikal, pagbubukas ng karagdagang employment opportunities, pagtitiyak ng inyong seguridad sa loob ng lungsod, at iba pa (Salute to all Filipino workers. The Manila city government will continue to provide free and quality medical services, more employment opportunities, your safety within the city, and more)," Domagoso said.

Present at the event were Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sec. Ramon Lopez, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Isidro Lapeña.

The city government targets to vaccinate 1,200 individuals.

Other vaccination sites in the city will also give the first dose of the vaccine to healthcare workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities ages 18-59 years old.

The city government has received 8,400 doses of Sinovac vaccines from the national government.

A second dose vaccination will be conducted for A1 to A3 Priority Group who received their first dose of Sinovac vaccine on April 3, 2021.

Domagoso also encouraged the public to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as it will give an added protection against the deadly virus.

A total of 74,452 individuals have been vaccinated in the nation's capital as of April 30, 2021.
