DOH to recipients of Ivermectin capsules: Report any adverse events, please

The Department of Health (DOH) is encouraging those individuals who received the Ivermectin capsules during a distribution event in Quezon City last Thursday to report any adverse effects that they may experience after taking the anti-parasitic drug.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said a notice has been issued and that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III urged those recipients of Ivermectin capsules to report to the agency should they encounter adverse events.

“The Secretary encourages all those who received the Ivermectin capsules, kung maaari, magreport lang po sa DOH para lang po malaman namin kung sakaling meron po silang ibang mararamdaman (if possible, they report to the DOH so that we would know if they experience adverse reactions) and if they need anything, handa po ang DOH tumulong (the DOH is ready to help) ” the DOH’s spokesperson said in a virtual public briefing.

Anakalusugan partylist Rep. Mike Defensor and Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta led the distribution of Ivermectin capsules in Barangay Matandang Balara in Quezon City on Thursday, April 29.

Duque said on Friday, April 30, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must investigate the alleged “token” prescription reportedly given to people during the distribution of anti-parasitic drug in Quezon City.

He said prescriptions must contain the name of the doctor who prescribed the drug, their office address, professional registration number of the physician, professional tax receipt number, and the patient’s information.

Defensor rushed in defense of doctors who wrote prescriptions for Ivermectin during their “community pan-three” project in Quezon City on Thursday.

“If there was anything wrong with our distribution of this COVID-19 wonder drug ivermectin, we are the ones answerable, not our volunteer doctors and other medical practitioners who just wanted to help our poor people,” he said.
