Easily one Honda Philippines’ most beloved and versatile motorcycle models is the XRM 125. First released some 20 years ago, the XRM (then a 110cc) was designed to be both a commuter and workhorse vehicle for both on- and light off-road use.
After decades of success in the Philippines, the newly updated model is off to conquer new lands, particularly Middle Earth, as it is bound for export to New Zealand.
The Philippine-made XRM125, assembled at Honda’s facility in Tanauan, Batangas, will be exported to New Zealand starting April 2021.
New Zealand has chosen the XRM125 as it is the best motorcycle suited for on and off-road use, ideal for the largely rural country known for its large dairy and livestock industries.

"We see the exportation of these motorcycle units as the perfect opportunity to put Philippine-made motorcycles on the map since we can also consider ourselves as a motorcycle-riding country. It can also help the economy recover as we hope this opportunity can provide and sustain jobs in the manufacturing industry in the future," HPI President Susumu Mitsuishi said.
A more rugged cub
The XRM took the familiar design and mechanics of the popular Cub and adapted it for more versatile use. Like the Cub, it used an air-cooled single cylinder engine paired with a clutchless manual transmission for easy operation.
Updated for 2021

For 2021, Honda Philippines unveiled the latest XRM 125. The new model features even more rugged design, boasting of a headlight derived from the more rugged CRF150 dual sport motorcycle. It also boasts of new fairings, new decals, and a fully digital speedometer. Another well-received update is the addition of disc brakes for both the front and rear wheels on higher end variants.
Though little has been changed to the already tried and tested 125cc engine that produces 10 PS and 10 Nm of torque, it has been paired with improved gearing for more efficient use of power.
Honda claims the XRM 125 is capable of achieving 65.4 kilometers per liter on average. This allows it to potentially travel up to 250 kilometers with its 3.9 liter tank.
It also comes with spacious utility-box, pillion step, muffler, Sporty CRF-inspired headlight, and equipped with digital meter panel.
The all-new XRM 125 comes in three variants: the Dual Sport priced at P67,900; the Dual Sport Extreme priced at P71,400; and the Motard priced at P73,600.
It’s available in Black, Dark Green, Fighting Red, Ceramic Gray and Aura Blue, depending on the variant.
The XRM125 is a unique Honda motorcycle model made exclusively in the Philippines. Since its first production in December 2001, the total production volume has reached over 1.83 million units.
