Paras opens up on mental health struggles

Former University of the Philippines standout Kobe Paras recently opened up on social media about his mental health struggles since returning to the country four years ago.

Taking it to Twitter, Paras reflected on life and admitted being at his "lowest" during those struggling times.

"I was depressed, suicidal, I just felt so lost. Until now there are days I don’t feel like me," wrote Paras, the son of basketball and PBA legend Benjie Paras.

The younger Paras furthered his message on a positive note and reminded everyone, "Whatever you’re going through, find a purpose and stick to it. It’s not easy at all. Only you can save yourself."

The 23-year-old swingman has let go of his final year with the Maroons due to the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paras is now on the move to reignite his chances overseas after signing with East West Private, the handler of Australia NBL-bound Kai Sotto after his journey with UCLA, Creighton University, and Cal State Northridge went into naught from 2015 to 2017.

When he moved back to the Philippines, Paras became a one-and-done product of UP and led the squad to the second stepladder round in UAAP Season 82.

The high-flying forward averaged 17.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals with the Fighting Maroons.
