Pangasinan farmers pin hopes of better harvest on solar-powered irrigation system

Farm production is expected to improve soon for farmers in Bani, Pangasinan with the installation of a solar-powered irrigation system.

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said Friday, April 30, that a total of 142 agrarian reform beneficiaries were delighted to learn about the solar-powered irrigation project since it would greatly help them maximize the potential of their farmland.

Pangasinan provincial agrarian reform program officer Maria Ana Francisco said all farmer-beneficiaries belong to the Rang-ay Upland Integrated Farmers Association.

“The project is economical and environment-friendly since it uses sunlight to recharge its battery for its operation,” Francisco said, adding that the townsfolk usually do farming just once a year, during the rainy season.

Francisco led the inspection of the project in Barangay Dacap Norte on Friday, April 30.

The solar-powered irrigation project is being implemented under the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project of the department. It aims to make rain-fed farmlands more productive and help advance the country’s food self-sufficiency program.

It is expected to be turned over to the farmers in the first week of May.
