Blacklist, Bren and MPL personalities come in defense of OhMyV33nus after sexist remarks from fans

Several fans hurled homophobic remarks against Blacklist International captain-support Johnmar "OhMyV33nus" Villaluna after absorbing their first defeat in the MPL Philippines Season 7 at the hands of Bren Esports on Thursday night, April 29.

Bren immediately took action and blocked the people making sexist comments against OhMyV33nus, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, in its celebratory post for its 2-1 victory that snapped Blacklist's seven-game unbeaten run.

The Tier One Entertainment-backed Blacklist also defended its decorated player, saying that OhMyV33nus competes to prove a point while championing its advocacy of providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ members.

"OhMyV33nus is here to show everyone that esports knows no gender," the team said in a social media post early Friday.

"No matter which MPL team or esports org you support, if you are someone who feels invalidated and discriminated in the world of gaming and esports because you are part of the LGBTQ+, we welcome you to our community. Let this be your safe space."

Bren coach Francis "Duckey" Glindro blasted the fans through his Facebook page.

Shoutcaster Renmar "Reptar" Sta. Cruz and analyst Neil "Midnight" De Guzman also aired their thoughts against the toxic followers and urged the MPL fans to be more responsible.

"You can support a team without having to hurl discriminating remarks targeted at a person's race, physical appearance, gender, socioeconomic status, or anything. That's how you can #BeLegendary in your own little way," said Reptar.

"Sad to see people go like that when Blacklist lost. I get it, it’s a competition but these comments are just geared towards hatred and insensitivity. We, as a community, are as one during these times and during the amazing tournament season. Let’s be responsible and sensitive in what we say so we can," stressed Midnight.

Blacklist said it will tackle the issue after its match against Execration later at 5 p.m.
