No sufficient evidence to recommend use of Ivermectin for mild to moderate COVID-19 patients - PSMID official
The head of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) said there is "insufficient evidence at this time to recommend for or against the use of Ivermectin among mild to moderate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients."

"We also have a statement suggesting against the use of Ivermectin for severe and critical patients," PSMID President Dr. Marissa Alejandria said in a virtual forum Thursday, April 29.
"Since there are ongoing trials, we are not closing the door on Ivermectin. What we are saying is that there is still insufficient evidence to give it to the general population," she added.
Alejandria also said that there is no miracle drug that can treat the COVID-19 at this point.
"There is no miracle drug that has been discovered at this point and we don't think that management of COVID-19 will be through a single drug," she said.
"Ivermectin is just one drug. There are other drugs that are already tried in big trials. The management of COVID-19 is not like one drug will heal the COVID-19 virus," added Alejandria.
Meanwhile, the local clinical trials for Ivermectin may start in late May.
Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) Executive Director Dr. Jaime Montoya revealed they are eyeing some 1,200 individuals as participants in the clinical trials
"Within the year, we should have finished the clinical trial already," he said.
