Manila Cathedral's Immaculate Conception image undergoing restoration
The nine-foot bronze image of the Immaculate Conception of the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros is currently undergoing cleaning and restoration.

The Manila Cathedral said the restoration is part of their preparations for the installation of Archbishop-elect of Manila Cardinal Jose F. Advincula Jr.
"After years of dirt and grime, this masterpiece by Italian artist Vincenzo Assenza is undergoing superficial cleaning with non-acidic soap, minor touch-up and application of protective wax layer," the Cathedral said in a Facebook post Tuesday, April 27.
"Decorative elements are also being re-gilded with 24k authentic gold leaf," it further read.
The cleaning and restoration are being done by Jayson Maceo of Atelier Rafael Lopez.
The Manila Cathedral on April 15, announced that it will indefinitely be closed to the public as it prepares for the arrival of the 33rd archbishop of Manila.
It said it will continue holding online masses despite being closed to the public.
There has been no announcement yet as to when Advincula will be installed.
Pope Francis appointed the Capiz prelate as the new Archbishop of Manila last month.
