LOOK: All 17 Metro mayors sign in favor of shorter unified curfew starting May 1

All 17 mayors of Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR) signed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution 21-09 Series of 202, which provides for a new unified curfew of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. beginning on Saturday, May 1.

Also signing the two-page document is MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos.

"All local chief executives in Metro Manila have agreed to enact their respective ordinances for the proper implementation of the standardized and unified curfew hours," the resolution read. The new curfew is just six hours long.

The NCR along with the nearby provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will remain under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status until April 30. The current unified curfew is from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., or nine hours long.

"All the 17 local chief executives in Metro Manila are ready to implement any community quarantine status, whether it is to ease the quarantine restrictions or to extend the ," said Abalos in a statement Wednesday, April 28.

"The mayors don't want the gains of ECQ and MECQ to be put into waste especially since we've seen the downward trend on the growth rate . We are hoping that we can sustain it by our continued unified efforts," he added.
