COA affirms P8.265-M disallowance vs Comelec officials due to falsified claims
The Commission on Audit has affirmed the accountability of 18 Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials after making false travel expense claims valued up to P8.265 million in 2008 and 2009.

The COA en banc affirmed the 2014 decision of its National Goverment Sector-Cluster 3 in a five-page decision dated Feb. 18, 2021.
The reimbursements were filed for supposed travels to Tawi-tawi for the registration of voters in the 2010 elections.
"The travel was fictitious and fraudulent due to overlapping of the period of travel and duplication or double payment and triple claim of travelling expenses," COA said.
"These fictitious travel claims were successfully transacted or disbursed through forgery of the signatures of the employees concerned in the disbursement vouchers and other supporting documents. These fraudulent transactions gave rise to the illegal disbursement of government funds; thus, were disallowed in audit," it added.
