Nograles in talks with virgin coconut oil suppliers for hospitals outside NCR+
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles is pushing for the distribution of virgin coconut oil (VCO) in hospitals outside the National Capital Region plus (NCR plus) as supplemental treatment for the coronavirus disease.

Nograles has started to hold talks with VCO suppliers for possible distribution of the product in other hospitals treating coronavirus patients.
"What we're doing is identifying which areas have Level 1 hospitals with a growing number of COVID patients, and coordinating with them to see if they're open to using VCO as an adjunct treatment for their patients," he said in a statement Monday, April 26.
"Our objective is to help those with COVID recover faster, and so far clinical trials indicate that VCO can help in this regard," he added.
Several hospitals in Metro Manila have already received free VCO products from Nograles, also co-chair of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases. Nograles earlier started giving away VCO after government studies showed it can help reduce the coronavirus symptoms.
Over the weekend, Nograles distributed VCO supplies to three Level 1 hospitals in Bulacan, namely Ospital ng Guiguinto, Romel Cruz Hospital, and Guiguinto Polymed Hospital, Inc.. The three hospitals are currently providing care and treatment to 30 patients for mild COVID symptoms.
Three other hospitals in Metro Manila also received free VCO products from Nograles. Alabang Medical Clinic and the Christ the King Medical Center Unihealth, both in Las Piñas, as well as Alabang Medical Clinic in Muntinlupa currently have 32 patients with mild COVID symptoms.
"The faster our kababayans recover, the faster they can go back to their families and resume their lives, at kung makakatulong tayo dito, bakit naman hindi? Kailangan natin magtulungan (and if we can help through this, why not? We must help each other)," he said.
Nograles urged people with mild symptoms to try taking virgin coconut oil, assuring them that medical experts have attested there are no adverse side effects from taking the product.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) earlier reported that studies found that VCO could be used as “an adjunct supplement to probable and suspect COVID-19 cases to help prevent symptoms from becoming severe.”
"You can get VCO at the grocery or at the supermarket, di mo kailangan ng reseta dahil wala naman itong masamang epekto––pero malinaw naman sa pag-aaral na may mga benepisyo ito, bukod pa sa panlaban sa COVID (You don't need a medical prescription because it has no bad side effect. Studies clearly show the benefits apart from fighting COVID)," Nograles said.
