ICU utilization rate in Metro Manila down to 71% - Duque

Metro Manila's intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate has decreased to 71 percent following the reimposition of a stricter quarantine measure, according to Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III.

In an interview over CNN Philippines on Tuesday, April 27, Duque attributed the decrease to the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

"We've brought down the NCR ICU utilization rate from about 85 to 86 percent, down now to 71 percent," Duque said.

He noted that overall hospital isolation beds are also down to 62 percent.

"Our TTMFs we have also brought it down significantly, it's now at 72 percent," Duque added.

TTMFs are the government-run quarantine facilities catering to suspected, probable, and confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases with mild symptoms.

Two-week growth rate also went down during ECQ, said Duque.

"Transmission rate has slowed down, the change has been at negative 15 for NCR. That means the cases for the current two weeks are now lower by 15 percent compared to cases of three to four weeks ago," the health secretary added.

On Monday, April 26, Duque backed the MECQ extension in Metro Manila and nearby provinces until May.
