DOST-based personnel, affiliates undergo capacity-building on Halal industry

To orient participants on the many opportunities that the Halal industry offers, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST-XI) held a virtual training for trainers.

“This trainers’ training provides capacity-building to DOST-based personnel and affiliate to create a pool of human resource for the Halal Industry,” DOST-XI Regional Director and DOST Halal S&T Program Leader Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III said in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 27.

Sales also encouraged the participants to “practice what they have learned” and that the training will be echoed to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Halal stakeholders.

The two-day training on “Halal Perspective in the Industry” was held via Zoom. The activity is in line with the Human Resource Development (HRD) under the DOST Halal S&T Program.

Seventy-five participants, composed of personnel from various DOST Food Safety Teams (FST), Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) and technical personnel of DOST Region XI and other DOST Regional Offices, attended the virtual event.

Experts in the Halal industry including Prof. Analiza Flores-Malayang, former Commissioner III of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos; Lourdes S. Montevirgen, Norli L. Aidasani, and Charles Feb Q. Palla of the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) of the Department of Science and Technology served as resource speakers and shared their knowledge during the event.

The activity aimed to equip the participants with the appropriate knowledge and skills on the Halal Concepts and Principles, Halal Assurance System (Philippine and Malaysian standards), and Halal Management System.
