Año confirms undergoing heart surgery twice during medical leave

Wonder why Interior Secretary Año was absent for a very long time?

It was because he had to undergo surgery twice because his initial heart procedure had some complications.

“Nagkaroon ako ng heart surgery at nagkaroon ng complication at nagkaroon ng infection so naulit uli yung aking surgery but I’m okay now (I had heart surgery and it had complications and infection so I underwent another surgery but I’m okay now),’’Año said in an interview over ABS-CBn TeleRadyo.

But the DILG chief assured: “Recovering ako but fit to work na ako (I’m recovering but I’m already first to work)."

He returned to work last April 16 after taking a leave of absence last January upon his doctors’ advice to slow down and take a break from stressful activities.

Año initially contracted the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) on March 3, 2020 and was again tested positive for the virus on August 16, 2020.
