WATCH: Here's the trailer of Steven Spielberg's 'West Side Story'

The star-crossed lovers are coming back to the big screen

Are you ready to witness again one of the most iconic love stories ever depicted on stage and in film? Well, here’s a tease. On Oscars Sunday, April 25, 2021, Disney releases the trailer of famed director Steve Spielberg’s latest film, the romantic musical drama “West Side Story.”

A modern retelling of one of William Shakespeare's famous plays, “Romeo and Juliet,” the musical is set in 1950s New York and features the star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria, and the rivalry of street gangs the Jets and Sharks. Prior to the 2021 remake, “West Side Story” first made its debut on Broadway in 1957, and adapted to film in 1961.

Spielberg’s version stars actor Ansel Elgort as Tony and newcomer Rachel Zegler as the female lead Maria. Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar award for her portrayal of Anita in the 1961 film, is also set to appear in the movie, which is slated to be released on Dec. 10, 2021.
