Seo Ye-ji's 'Recalled,' Gong Yoo-Park Bogum's 'Seobok' top weekend box office in Korea

Controversial actress Seo Ye-ji’s movie “Recalled” placed first while Gong Yoo and Park Bogum’s sci-fi offering “Seobok” is in third place on the weekend box office in South Korea.
“Recalled,” starring Seo Ye-ji and actor Kim Kang-woo, took the No. 1 spot on the weekend tally from April 23 to 25, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which tracks box office receipts.
The movie, which opened at No. 1 last April 21, sold 101,638 tickets and earned $853,826 from Friday to Sunday. Its’ total admissions from April 21 to 25 are 136,042 with revenues of $1.09 million, capturing 27 percent of the total revenues for the period.
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie - Mugen Train” from Japan placed second on the weekend with 94,477 tickets sold and earning $814,901. Since Jan. 27, it has sold 1.82 million tickets and has earned $15.71 million in South Korea.
“Seobok,” which placed first on the weekend box office last week, grabbed third place this time with 60,815 in total admissions and $528,298 in revenue. Since its opening on April 15, the movie has sold 331,380 tickets and has earned $2.82 million at the box office.
Comparing the weekend box office tally between “Recalled” and “Seobok,” the sci-fi movie fared better when it sold 163,523 tickets from April 16 to 18 and earned $1.42 million.
The Oscar-nominated “Minari” to fifth place over the weekend from eight place last weekend as excitement built up in South Korea over its prospects of winning.
The Korean cinema industry is still struggling amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as social distancing is still in effect.
