DSWD reminds organizers of 'relief distribution drives' to coordinate with LGUs
As community pantries have popped up across the country, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) asked Monday, April 26, organizers of "relief distribution drives” to closely and properly coordinate with the local government units (LGUs) to ensure the smooth, and orderly conduct of such activities, especially if these involve the vulnerable sectors.

The DSWD made the call days after Rolando dela Cruz, 67, collapsed and died after queueing at the community pantry organized by actress Angel Locsin in Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City.
In a statement on Monday, the social welfare department sought the "proper and orderly conduct" of the relief drive activities, "especially if there are participants from the vulnerable groups.”
“Senior citizens and PWDs (persons with disabilities) are the most vulnerable to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” it said.
It noted that the resolution issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) advised those 60 years old and above and have health risks to stay at home amid the coronavirus disease (COVID) pandemic.
The DSWD urged anew senior citizens and PWDs to refrain from going out and send their authorized representatives to claim their financial assistance from the local government units (LGUs).
