The Department of Health (DOH) said the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) have yet to detect the Indian coronavirus variant in the country.

"We have not detected yet this variant across the 5,000 specimens sequenced by the PGC," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual press briefing Monday, April 26.
She added that the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) on COVID variants is already assessing this Indian variant.
The Health official also revealed that they are also discussing with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) the possibility of imposing travel restrictions to India in view of the growing number of coronavirus cases there.
"We already had initial discussions with the DFA. They are just waiting for our recommendations," said Vergeire.
"We will give information as soon as recommendations are out from experts and our recommendations are submitted to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases," she added.
The DOH on April 18 reported 642 additional COVID-19 variant cases: 266 B.1.1.7 variant cases, 351 B.1.351 variant cases, and 25 P.3 variant cases.
