Senior citizen Delfin survives COVID-19

As senior citizens are considered as one of the most vulnerable in this time of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, 72-year-old Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is not one to back down from any fight, not even against the deadly disease.

Lorenzana announced Sunday, April 25, that he has finally recovered from COVID-19 more than two weeks after being infected on April 6.

"I'm pleased to announce that I'm now COVID-free," said Lorenzana in a Twitter post.

The Defense chief beat the virus even though he has yet to receive a single dose of vaccine. So how did he pull off such a miracle?

"At 72, the odds are not exactly in my favor. How did I survive? I always maintain my physical and mental health even before I was diagnosed," said the retired Army general.

The official also posted four pictures showing that he was engaged in physical activities at home such as boxing, push-up, pull-up, and stationary cycling.

In a separate statement last April 20, the Department of National Defense (DND) said Lorenzana had already tested negative for COVID-19. But as part of extra precautionary measures, the Defense Chief opted to finish his isolation.

"I am now ready more than ever to serve our nation," Lorenzana said.
