PCG: 2 more crewmen of ill-fated cargo ship found dead, 7 still missing

Authorities have recovered two more bodies of missing crew members of a cargo vessel that ran aground the shoreline of Surigao del Norte after the onslaught of typhoon “Bising,” the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed on Saturday, April 24.

The recovery of two more crewmen of the cargo vessel LCT Cebu Great Ocean on Friday morning, April 23, in San Francisco town of Surigao del Norte brought to six the total number of fatalities from the ill-fated ship.

They were identified the fatalities as Klint Auxtero and Limuel Dadivas. They were among the nine crewmen who were reported missing.

Four cadavers were earlier recovered during the search and rescue operation while seven were rescued by fishermen. Seven other crewmen of the cargo vessel are still missing.

The search and rescue operations were temporarily suspended late Friday due to unfavorable weather and sea condition, the PCG said.

Meanwhile, the PCG Marine Environmental Protection Force – North Eastern Mindanao has supervised the siphoning operations conducted to the cargo vessel LCT Cebu Great Ocean.

The cargo vessel LCT Cebu Great Ocean was taking shelter due to rough seas in Nasipit, Agusan del Sur on April 17, when its anchor chain was cut off and seawater started coming in until it ran aground, the PCG said, citing the initial inquiry from the survivors.

The Coast Guard said it will conduct an investigation in the following days to confirm the information.
