Comelec logs almost 3 million applicants for voter registration

Nearly 3 million Filipinos have filed their applications for voter registration in the May 2022 polls.

Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed 2,770,561 voter registration applicants from Sept. 1, 2020 to April 20, 2021.

Calabarzon recorded the highest number of voter registration applicants with 396,529; followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 295,357; Central Luzon with 271,869; and Central Visayas with 202,370.

Those with the lowest number of applicants are the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with 42,204; Caraga with 87,892; Cagayan Valley with 94,462; and Mimaropa with 96,180.

The poll body on April 12 announced the suspension of voter registration in the NCR, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Abra, Quirino, and Santiago City (Isabela) until April 30.

The issuance of voter certification was also suspended in areas placed under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

For the rest of the country or those under the general community quarantine or modified general community quarantine, the poll body said, voter registration will continue.

Voter registration will run until Sept. 30, 2021.
