DPWH 'wraps up' Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge construction, now 88% done

The construction of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge that links Mandaluyong and Makati has entered the "wrap-up" stage, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Saturday, April 24.

The bridge project entering the "wrap-up" stage means the substructure and superstructure are already completed.

"Even with the challenges brought about by the pandemic, the project to date is 88 percent complete and we now wrapping up the construction of the expanded Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge also known as the Rockwell Bridge," DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said.

According to Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, the final concrete pouring of bridge deck slab was held on Friday, April 23.

This keeps the 2021 target completion for the project within reach, Sadain said.

The China-funded bridge will connect Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.

It is among the key bridge projects within Metro Manila to decongest the overly-congested Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). It is projected to accommodate about 50,000 vehicles per day.

It will replace the old two-way two-lane steel truss bridge with a four-lane prestressed concrete rigid frame bridge.

The other bridge funded by China grant and also in advanced stage completion is the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge in Manila.
