'Challenge accepted:' Japan envoy looking for PH's best cook

It's time to show off your cooking skills.

The embassy of Japan in Manila has launched an online cooking competition where the winner can have a chance to dine with the ambassador at his residence.

Japanese Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa accepted the challenge and encouraged Filipinos to submit their best Japan cuisine and/or Filipino-Japanese fusion cooking online.

"Challenge accepted!! My chef Suzuki and I are waiting for your Cooking Contest entries! Btw, Chef Suzuki was awarded with the 2019 Foreign Minister’s Commendation for Excellent Executive Chef!" the ambassador said in a post on Twitter Saturday, April 24.

The competition dubbed "Food and Friendship: The Japan-Philippines 65th Anniversary Online Cooking Contest," is part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year. The contest is open to Filipino amateur cooks, home cooks, small business owners, culinary students, and food enthusiasts.

In the first round, contestants must submit submit photos of their dish. Selected contestants will then advance to the second and final round where they must submit videos preparing the dish.

The final winner shall be chosen by Chef Daisuke Suzuki and will be invited to dine with the Japanese ambassador. The winning dish will be served as part of the menu, accordion to the embassy. Health protocols will be observed during this special dinner with the Japanese envoy.

Entries must be submitted via email with the subject: Cooking Contest Entry to: [email protected].

Deadline of submission of entries will be on or before May 7, 2021.
