One hundred seventy-five kilos of methampethamine hydrochloride ("shabu"), 329 kilos of marijuana, and 884 tablets and 300 milliliters (ml) of "ecstasy".
That's how much illegal drugs the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) confiscated in Metro Manila during a five-month span amid the raging coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Police Major Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., NCRPO regional director, said the drugs were seized during the 4,618 operations launced by the anti-narcotics agents from Nov. 11, 2020 to April 15, 2021. The total value of the drugs was pegged at P1.2 billion.
The operations also resulted in the arrest of 7,941 drug suspects, Danao said.
He stressed that the NCRPO has been consistent in its campaign to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs, especially those being distributed amid the various lockdown levels in the metropolis that past few months.
The NCRPO chief lauded the operatives behind the confiscation of the illegal drugs even as he vowed that they will remain relentless in their drive.
"Ipagpapatuloy ng inyong kapulisan ang aming naging simulain upang tuluyang mawakasan ang ilegal na droga sa ating rehiyon (Your police will continue to build on our gains to finally end the illegal drugs menace in the region)," Danao said.
