'Bising' weakens into severe tropical storm

Typhoon "Bising" (international name "Surigae") weakened into a severe tropical storm as it moved further away from the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday afternoon, April 23.

The severe tropical storm was last spotted 805 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

It is moving northeast at 15 kph.

PAGASA said Bising will move generally northeast until Friday evening before turning east-southeast to east by Saturday, April 24, and eastward to east-northeastward by Sunday, April 25.

Bising will likely leave the Philippine area of responsibility by late Saturday or early Sunday.

Moreover, PAGASA said the cyclone will continue to weaken throughout the forecast period.

It could be downgraded into a tropical storm by Saturday and an extratropical cyclone by Monday, April 26.

As of Friday, Bising has no more direct effect on the country.

The country is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

However, Bising may still trigger rough to very rough seas over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, which will be risky for small boats.

Moderate to rough seas may also prevail over the eastern seaboards of Luzon.

"Mariners of small sea crafts are advised not to venture out over these waters. Inexperienced mariners of these vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions," PAGASA said.
