Binay: PH's COVID-19 response a 'failure' due to gov't downplaying the problem
Senator Nancy Binay on Friday, April 23, said the government’s predilection to downplay the country’s coronavirus (COVID-19) problem is the reason why the Philippines’s is still facing a health crisis.

Binay said the emergence of the community pantries itself shows that the government failed to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Yes, the government’s response is a failure. And I think the government needs to admit that they cannot find a solution to the problem,” Binay said in an interview on ANC’s Matters of Fact.
“I think the reason why we are in this kind of situation is because there is always that denial that there is a problem. There is always that move to downplay the problem,” she pointed out.
“How can we provide a solution if we are not admitting that there is a huge problem?” she stressed.
The government, Binay said, should appreciate and welcome efforts of the public to help in the COVID-19 response.
However, she said, she believes calls for President Duterte to step down would only further divide the nation.
“That kind of call would...divide the country more at the moment. We don’t need that kind of division. What we need right now is for all of us to work together,” she said.
