Buntan takes pride in Filipino bloodline ahead of US prime time bout

Filipino-American muay thai fighter Jackie Buntan is taking pride in her Filipino bloodline ahead of her US prime time showing against Ekaterina Vandaryeva of Belarus in ONE on TNT IV at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on April 28.

Buntan, who emerged as one of the prospects on the ONE Super Series fighters, looks to make it to the top bannering both the Philippine and American flags in the Circle.

The 23-year-old Buntan said reading articles from Philippine media outlets gave her more confidence "not only as a fighter but as a person" as well, especially after marking a victorious debut in ONE: Fists of Fury last February.

"Having the nation of the Philippines rocking with me and supporting me just proves to me that I can make people excited and proud just by doing what I love to do,” said Buntan, who scored a convincing unanimous decision win over Thai rising star Wondergirl Fairtex in their women's muay thai strawweight bout to improve at 21-6 record.

"Being able to represent my bloodline and heritage means the world to me. Being a Filipino-American competing in ONE Super Series is a great opportunity for me to not only chase after my dreams as a fighter, but also to open doors for the younger generation and prove that through hard work and resilience, you can make the life you want for yourself."

Vandaryeva, for her part, suffered defeat at the hands of Janet Todd, who is the current No. 2 atomweight muay thai contender and atomweight kickboxing champion.

ONE on TNT IV is the fourth and last installment of ONE Championship's US prime time showing which also features the trilogy between Team Lakay veteran and two-time lightweight champion Eduard Folayang and Japanese icon Shinya Aoki.
