SHINee's Taemin to enlist in the military in May

Taemin, the youngest member of K-pop boy band SHINee, will be enlisting in the Korean military next month.

The 27-year-old singer announced his enlistment during Naver V Live broadcast on April 19 titled “Thank you for 13 years.”

During the broadcast, Taemin said his solo album will likely be released in the second week of May and he will start his military service on May 31.

Taemin will enlist as an active duty soldier and join the Korean Army’s military band. SM Entertainment, SHINee’s agency, said Taemin applied to join the military band and was accepted recently.

Only those eligible for active duty soldiers are accepted in the military band. All Korean men are mandated to enlist by age 28.

"Since Taemin is hoping to enlist quietly, we respect his intentions and we will not disclose the location and time of enlistment, and will not hold a separate event on the day." said SM Entertainment.

He is the only last member of SHINee to enlist in the military. Onew enlisted in December 2018 and was discharged in July 2020.

Key started his military service in March 2019 and completed it in October 2020 while Minho enlisted in April 2019 and was discharged in November 2020.

Before his enlistment, Taemin will hold his online concert “Beyond Live: Taemin: N.G.D.A.” on May 2 on Naver V Live’s Beyond Live.

SHINee, which debuted in 2008, released the album “Atlantis” on April 12, a repackaged version of their “Don’t Call Me” studio album released in February.
