Ludovic Badoy, former NHCP executive director passes away

The former Cotabato City mayor died ‘due to acute respiratory failure, among other complications, secondary to COVID-19.’

Former National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) executive director and former mayor of Cotabato City Ludovic Deles Badoy passed away at 69 on Sunday, April 18, 2021. In a statement released by the NHCP, his demise was “due to acute respiratory failure, among other complications, secondary to COVID-19.”

From 1986 to 1998, Ludovic served the City of Cotabato as mayor, wherein throughout his term, he has made the city “peaceful, orderly, clean, and vibrant,” as Department of Agriculture undersecretary Zamzamin Apatuan said. 

Through a Facebook post, Cotabato City councilor Bruce Matabalao expressed his grief and gratitude over Ludovic’s contribution to the city and in his early career.

“I will always remember Mayor Vic for his support when I competed in regional and national competitions back in my high school,” Bruce said. “Thank you too for wishing me victory in all my elections. Thank you for your love and service to Cotabato City and the Filipino nation! Rest well, Mayor Vic!”

In December 2002, Ludovic started his work in the NHCP until his retirement in 2019. Among his accomplishments in his 17 years of being the executive director were “the modernization of its (the NHCP’s) historical shires and museums from 2010 onwards and the nationwide commemoration of the birth sesquicentenaries of Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, and Emilio Aguinaldo.”

He also helped with the NHCP’s reorganization under a new charter pursuant to Republic Act No. 10086 (Strengthening People’s Nationalism Through Philippine History Act) and with the creation of the Local Historical Committee Network.

“More than his accomplishments, Director Badoy will be fondly remembered as an affable father figure by many NHCP personnel,” the Commission said. “He shall be greatly missed, and the NHCP commiserates with the bereaved family at this most difficult time.”
