It’s pure, wholesome, unadulterated violence
One of the most promising upcoming anime titles to premiere on streaming platform Netflix is one about a legendary figure in Japanese history. We’ve already done a bit of a backgrounder about this character, who was, in fact, a real historical figure. But Netflix’s “Yasuke” will not be about the Black Samurai’s history. It’ll all be rather fictional, following a story set after the Afican warrior’s time serving as one of Oda Nobunaga’s retainers.

Now, the show’s first trailer is out, and it looks like it’ll follow the path of other Netflix original anime series—like “Castlevania” and “Dota: Dragon’s Blood,” to name a few. So expect it to be full of action and perhaps some themes not really suitable for children.
If you check out the trailer, which we’ve linked below, you’ll see what you mean.
“Yasuke” is made by Mappa, the same animation studio behind “Jujutsu Kaisen,” which has been one of the most successful (and ongoing) anime and manga series from 2020.
“Yasuke” premieres on April 29, 2021.
