Gong Yoo-Park Bogum's movie 'Seobok' No. 1 at box office for 4 straight days

Korean stars Gong Yoo and Park Bogum’s sci-fi film “Seobok” has dominated the box office for four straight days and topped the weekend tally in South Korea. 

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which tracks box office receipts, “Seobok” has topped the box office since it opened on April 15. 

“Seobok” premiered at No. 1 on April 15, selling 45,153 tickets and earning $362,545 with a 59.87 percent revenue share for the day. 

It topped the weekend box office in South Korea from April 16 to 18 with 163,523 in total admissions and sales of $1.42 million, capturing 41.35 percent of the total cinema revenue for the period. 

From April 15 to 18 including the pre-opening screening, “Seobok” has sold 210,233 tickets and earned $1.8 million in South Korea. 

Due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Korean entertainment company CJ ENM decided to release “Seobok” simultaneously in theaters and on its over-the-top (OTT) video streaming platform Tving. 

“Seobok,” produced with a budget of 16.5 billion won (about $14.7 million), tells the story of Gi-heon (played by Gong Yoo), a former intelligence agent suffering from terminal illness, who is tasked to transport Seobok (Park Bogum), the first human clone, to safety. The two face dangerous situations as forces try to take Seobok. 

Here are the 10 top-grossing movies in South Korea based on KOFIC’s weekend box office tally from April 16 to 18: 

1. “Seobok” - $1,428,181 (revenue) / 163,523 (tickets sold) 

2. “Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet” - $673,305 / 78,701

3. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie-Mugen Train” - $298,952 / 33,024

4. “Nobody” - $217,269 / 25,013

5. “The Book of Fish” - $183,036 / 21,767
