Francis Casey Alcantara settled for the runner-up honors in the Rollingwood Spring Cup Open tennis tournament over the weekend at the Rollingwood Athletic Club in Fair Oaks, California.

Alcantara, seeded 12th in the tournament, yielded to 13th pick Eric Hadigian, 6-3, 6-4.

Alcantara appeared in control of his matches with straight-set victories en route to the final, but proved the Hadigian was too hot to handle.

After earning an opening-round bye, the Filipino bet blanked Anders Matta, 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 32, then followed it up with a 6-0, 6-2 thumping of Luke Neal in the Round of 16.

He continued his pace and dominated Saahith Jayaraman, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and Jordan Chiu in the semis, 6-3, 6-3, before falling short to Hadigian.

Alcantara has been campaigning in the United States since early this year after being sidelined for almost a year due to the pandemic.

He has so far competed in two International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments in the doubles with Ruben Gonzales, but dabbled into singles this time.
