Met Gala 2021 is happening with two exhibitions

Looks like the stars are aligning for the celebration of the Met Gala 2021. After last year's cancellation, the fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is bringing hope and style back, coupled with two exhibitions by the Costume Institute in ode to US's contribution to fashion.

The first one, dubbed "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," will be held in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on Sept. 18, 2021. It will remain on display until "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" opens on May 5, 2022. 

"The American fashion community has been supporting us for 75 years, really since the beginning of the Costume Institute, so I wanted to acknowledge its support, and also to celebrate and reflect upon American fashion," the Costume Institute's curator Andrew Bolton says to Vogue. "I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a Renaissance. I think young designers in particular are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability and transparency, much more so than their European counterparts, maybe with the exception of the English designers.”

The news every fashion savant is excited about is the comeback of the Met Gala. Unlike its traditional first Monday in May schedule, it is planned to happen on Sept. 13, 2021. It is expected to be a slightly smaller event compared to previous years' festivities, in light of the pandemic and the US government's health and safety guidelines. With vaccinations happening in the US, it is likely that fashion's biggest night is a go this year.
