Organizers of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) are looking at alternative plans on holding its Open Conference amid restrictions brought by the pandemic.
PVL President Ricky Palou said one plan is to hold the tournament bubble in Subic depending on the quarantine situation in the coming months.
“We’re looking at this possibility, just in case the MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine) is not lifted,” Palou said.
The scheduled opening is already moved from May 8 to late June or early July to give ample training time for 12 participating teams.
The tournament bubble is penciled at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna since early this year, but the rising number of new and active COVID-19 cases in NCR and nearby provinces prompted the government to implement MECQ on these places until the end of the month.
Laguna is included in the list under MECQ along with Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan and Cavite.
No team training and tournaments are allowed in places under MECQ.
With training also disrupted, Palou said other teams are also looking at holding a training bubble outside of NCR where there are less restrictions.
“Most probably some of the teams are looking at Clark or Subic,” he said.
Prior to the MECQ, teams have been training in San Juan City, Mandaluyong and Manila.
