Several PBA players were not so thrilled with what they saw during a VisMin Super Cup game between Lapu-Lapu City and Siquijor that is under probe for a series of dubious misses from the free throw line.
Magnolia’s Paul Lee and NLEX’s Kiefer Ravena expressed disappointment over what transpired during the Visayas leg contest in Alcantara, Cebu that was eventually postponed at halftime.

“Madaming player ang nawalan ng trabaho ngayong pandemic at gustong-gusto maglaro, kayo yung mga pinagpala para makapaglaro tapos ganyan,” Lee said in one of his Instagram stories.
“Hindi ako perfect sa laro pero madaming questionable dito para sa akin,” added Lee.
(Many players have lost their jobs in this pandemic and really want to play, but you are the ones who are blessed to be able to play. I’m not perfect when it comes to playing the game but for me there’s a lot of things that were questionable.)

Ravena, meanwhile, said the series of events which saw players from both teams failing to convert charity attempts and one failing to convert an open layup in lackluster fashion won’t help the image of the upstart professional league created for Visayas and Mindanao teams.

“Sana hindi tularan ng mga bata, lalo na sa Visayas at Mindanao dahil para sa kanila ang ligang yan. Para meron silang sarili nilang liga. Nakakatuwa na ganon ang growth ng basketball,” said Ravena.
(I hope the kids, especially in Visayas and Mindanao, won’t emulate these acts because (the VisMin Cup) was created so that they can have a league of their own. It’s exciting that basketball is growing like that.)
“Pero kung ganito ang gagawin nila, sana puyat lang sila, kulang sa extra work, masama ang gising o kahit anong dahilan at hindi dahil sa mga comments ng karamihan ng tao,” he added.
(But if they’ll only do these acts, I hope it’s because they lack extra work, woke up or whatever reason and not because of the comments of most people.)
The sentiments of Lee and Ravena may stem from their agony of having to deal with the uncertainty of the 46th PBA season since there’s still no definite start due to the rise of COVID-19 cases that prompted strict community quarantine measures inside the NCR Plus bubble.
The VisMin Cup received approval to play its Visayas leg under a bubble setup in Alcantara, allowing those outside the PBA to play.
