Globe grants over P34 million for distance learning

Globe Telecom Inc. helped over 67,000 public school teachers and students navigate the digital learning space since the pandemic started, according to Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto.

The telco equipped them with P34 million worth of load and sim cards plus over 13,000 units of Home Prepaid WiFis and pocket WiFis.

Globe’s subscribers also contributed P700,000 through GCash and Globe Rewards points.

The amount was donated to Ayala Foundation to provide connectivity to teachers and students from partner schools nationwide.

This year, Globe At Home’s WiFi2Teach program and Ayala Foundation distributed 2,000 Home Prepaid WiFi kits to different partner schools to help teachers deliver online learning modules.

“We always seek innovative ways to enable the delivery of quality education despite uncertain times,” Crisanto underscored.

Aside from connectivity tools, Globe allows all teachers and students to access and download hundreds of ebooks and e-learner videos for free.

Through its Global Filipino Teachers (GFT) program, the telco also partnered with DepEd, National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), Habi Education Lab, and Teach for the Philippines (TFP) to train public school teachers on digital literacy, early language literacy, parental engagement, responsible online behavior and psychological first aid.

“Globe’s partnership with DepEd created a huge impact in the lives of the Filipinos embracing the challenges of the new normal in education," according to Atty. Tonisito M.C. Umali, Esq., DepEd Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs, External Partnerships and Project Management Service.

Due to the shift in needs of the public education sector in 2021, the Ayala Group opted for connectivity support, teacher training, handwashing facilities, and distribution of EduCare kits containing washable face masks, a face shield, alcohol, hand soap, notebooks and writing implements.

"Globe made a significant contribution in providing digital access to thousands of public school teachers nationwide in the new normal setup,” concluded Celerina Amores, Senior Director for Corporate Communications of Ayala Foundation.
