Fans' early birthday greetings for EXO's Sehun delayed due to new Seoul mayor's name

Every year, fans of K-pop boy band EXO’s Sehun prepare a long celebration ahead of his birthday, which falls on April 12.

But this year, the Seoul Metropolitan Government stopped the early display of Sehun’s street lamp post birthday banners due to the Seoul mayoralty election.

The Seoul election was held on April 7 and one of the candidates is a namesake of Oh Se-hun. Comebacking politician Oh Se-hoon, 60, and EXO’s Oh Se-hun have the same Korean name.

The banners were originally set to be placed on the lamp posts from April 2 to 4 and April 9 to 12, according to a Twitter post.

In addition, the banner’s color also became a problem. Its red color was the same as the color of the candidate’s People Power Party and was seen by the Seoul Metropolitan Government as something that could be interpreted as an illegal election campaign.

As a result, Sehun’s fans changed the dates of the banner placements to April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18. Born in 1994, Sehun will turn 27 on April 12.

Sehun was earlier cast in the drama “Now, We Are Breaking Up” that will star actress Song Hye-kyo and actor Jing Ki-young. The drama will air in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, candidate Oh Se-hoon was elected as the 38th mayor of Seoul, garnering 2.79 million votes, or 57.5 percent.

He will serve until June 2022, or the remaining term of the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon who died in July 2020 in an apparent suicide. Oh Se-hoon previously served as Seoul mayor from 2006 to 2011.
