Alex Eala set to improve WTA ranking after impressive run in Switzerland

Rising junior star Alex Eala is expected to increase her rankings significantly following her impressive showing at the W60 Bellinzona tournament in Switzerland this year.

Ranked No. 715 prior to her biggest International Tennis Federation (ITF) event so far, Eala is set to jump 200 notches after beating a higher-ranked Margot Yerolymos of France in the opening round, 7-6 (6), 6-2, and an upset win over 12^th seed Laura-Ioana Paar of Romania, 7-6(6), 6-1, 6-0, in the second round.

The Filipina player, however, bowed to wildcard bet Simona Waltert, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, in the third round.

Just 15, Eala has been actively campaigning in the ITF World Tennis Tour this season, competing in W15 and W25 events. The Swiss tourney was her first W60 event where she made it to the main draw as a junior exempt.

She started the year ranked No. 1185, and was able to play in eight events so far including the prestigious Miami Open where she earned a wildcard berth in the qualifying round.

Out of the eight tournaments, she managed to win her first pro title in the W15 Manacor in Spain last January.
