BTS to perform at 63rd Grammy Awards

K-pop superstars BTS will be performing at the 63rd Grammy Awards slated on March 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT in the US (9 a.m. on March 15 in the Philippines).

The Recording Academy announced the list of performing artists for the Grammys. They are Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Cardi B, BTS, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Mickey Guyton, Haim, Brittany Howard, Miranda Lambert, Lil Baby, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Maren Morris, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.

“Artists will be coming together, while still safely apart, to play music for each other as a community and celebrate the music that unites us all,” according to the Grammy website.

BTS are nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit song “Dynamite.”

Other nominees in the category are “Un Dia (One Day)” by J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny & Tainy; “Intentions” by Justin Bieber featuring Quavo; “Rain On Me” by Lady Gaga with Ariana Grande’; and “Exile” by Taylor Swift featuring Bon Iver.

Manila Bulletin previously asked the Recording Academy if there were other Koreans who got nominated for any Grammy in the past before BTS.

“Other South Korean music creators have been nominated for Grammy Awards in the past, beyond BTS,” the Academy’s media representative told Manila Bulletin in a reply via email.

The Recording Academy’s MusiCares Foundation earlier announced that BTS will be performing at the “Music on a Mission” virtual concert, an official Grammy Week event, which will be held March 12 or two days before the Grammy Awards.

According to the MusiCares, “the virtual event will honor the resilience of the music community, which has been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The concert “will feature new performances by HAIM, H.E.R., Jhené Aiko, and John Legend as well as legendary performances from the MusiCares' vaults featuring Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty, and Usher.”

Artists who will make special appearances at the event are Carole King, Jesse & Joy, Jonas Brothers, Ledisi, Lionel Richie, Macklemore, Mick Fleetwood, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Shakira, and a special pre-show DJ set performed by DJ D-Nice.
