Ginebra fans send best wishes to Slaughter, rejoice with Standhardinger acquisition

Ginebra fans on social media expressed mixed emotion after learning the trade between PBA big men Christian Standhardinger and Greg Slaughter.

In a PBA-approved deal on Thursday, March 4, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings acquired Standhardinger from the NorthPort Batang Pier in exchange for Slaughter.

While the Ginebra faithful were glad with the acquisition of Standhardinger, some were emotional towards Slaughter, who has been with the Kings since 2013.

One Twitter user pointed out that it was a "big move" from Ginebra, while another one said the desire to achieve a PBA Grand Slam could probably the reason for the trade.

"Ginebra didn't the patience anymore to see if Slaughter could start to dominate," the user added.

It would be recalled that the Slaughter, 32, missed action in the bubble after having a misunderstanding with the management.

The 7-footer Filipino-American left for the United States after his contract with Ginebra expired at the end of its 2019 Governors’ Cup title run, and the trade rumors were reportedly cited as the reason for his hiatus.

With the 31-year-old Standhardinger, on the other hand, Ginebra has obtained a hustle man in the paint who posted 19.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals in last year's All-Filipino conference.

Ginebra's Jared Dillinger also welcomed the Fil-German's arrival while NorthPort star Robert Bolick paid homage to their former big man in an Instagram Story.

Both big men, who also happened to be the No. 1 pick in their respective draft classes, already aired their sentiments on social media and expressed gratitude to their former teams.
