Kelly Williams set for PBA comeback, signs two-year deal with Tropang Giga

Kelly Williams, whose earlier decision to retire brought more questions than answers, is back with the TNT Tropang Giga on a two-year deal.

TNT team manager Gabby Cui made the announcement Thursday, March 4, 2021, shortly after returning coach Chot Reyes posted a video with Williams appearing to be part of the Tropang Giga practice at the Moro Lorenzo Gym inside the Ateneo campus.

“Great to have you back,” said PBA chairman Ricky Vargas, who represents TNT on the league’s Board of Governors.

The 39-year-old Williams returns to the TNT camp several months after surprising management by announcing his retirement.

Williams made the announcement shortly after leaving the Tropang Giga in the middle of their preparation for last season’s Philippine Cup at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

TNT initially considered Williams as an AWOL after only learning of the one-time Most Valuable Player’s decision through social media.

Williams eventually got in touch with TNT management and discussed the matter internally.

With things finally settled, TNT is hoping that Williams’ veteran presence can impact the team’s bid to bounce back from losing to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the Philippine Cup Finals.

“His leadership and experience will help us achieve success in the upcoming conference,” Cui said.
